What is spinal manipulation?

Spinal manipulation applies a controlled, high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust to a joint, typically in the spine. This quick, gentle movement helps release tension, restore normal motion, and alleviate discomfort. It may produce an audible “pop” or “click”, caused by the release of gas bubbles in the joint — completely normal.

Who can benefit?

People dealing with chronic back or neck pain, headaches and migraines, joint stiffness or restricted movement, postural problems or muscle tension, and sports injuries or rehabilitation.

What to expect

  1. Assessment — a detailed history and assessment of your symptoms.
  2. Physical examination — assessing your posture, range of motion, and areas of tension or restriction.
  3. Personalised treatment plan — if spinal manipulation is recommended, Ellie will explain the technique and ensure you’re comfortable.
  4. The procedure — a quick, controlled movement to a specific joint, which may produce a normal “pop” or “click”.
  5. Aftercare advice — guidance on movement, exercises, and pain management.

Benefits

Pain relief, reduced muscle tension and spasms, improved joint mobility and function, enhanced posture, headache relief, and an effective non-invasive complement to physiotherapy.
